2030. Ukraine is in NATO, and the front has frozen into history's most-watched stalemate, every trench and truck and soldier visible from space. Nothing moves. No one wins. So Russia goes where no satellite can see: down. Beneath the border, an army of three hundred thousand waits in the dark for the order to surface behind NATO's line.
Ukraine's answer is already in the rock. A nuclear-armed tunneling drone swims through the deep earth at walking pace, sealing its passage behind it, bound for a fault line beneath the buried army. It cannot be seen. It cannot be stopped. It cannot be recalled. It can only be heard, by the one man in Russia who knows that a source does not move.
The earth keeps no one's secrets.
